I have waited my entire life for the chance to add a Platinum label Barbie® to my collection. I have been an avid Barbie® collector ever since I can remember but I could never get my hands on a Platinum label. Rather than playing house with my dolls I insisted on keeping them in pristine condition and was certain to never have them leave their box. When I discovered The Karl Lagerfeld Barbie®, I immediately notified my family that they’d be getting up with me at 0230 am (EST) to prepare for her release. I had all the right web pages pulled up and when three o’clock struck, I hit the add to cart button so soon as my little finders would allow.
So there I was along with my family, my heart beating out of my chest, I had that Barbie® in my cart!! All I had to do now was enter my credit card information.

As soon as I clicked “process my order,” a message appeared that said something like “Oops! looks like there’s been a problem.” I read it as “too bad, that was your chance, you are never going to own this Barbie.”

Barbiecollector.com froze and shut down in seconds for the hundreds of thousands of collectors trying to get lucky enough to own one of the 999 pieces of perfection.
Once I clicked over to the Net-a-Porter website: I didn’t even have a chance.

I was so close close to owning her but she slipped away. I guess it just wasn’t meant to be (this time).

Net-a-Porter made a whopping $200K selling just a portion of these beauties while several “eBay-er’s” are making their 100% profit.

I guess now all I can do is go spend my $200 on something else…

Joseph Altuzarra for Target Lookbook

September 14 will be the release of the next designer collaboration at Target stores and online. Joseph Altuzarra has gained experience by working with designers including Marc Jacobs and Proenza Schouler. He is a past winner of the Fashion Fund and just this year was awarded the CFDA Womenswear Designer of the Year.

The women’s ready-to-wear line will feature around 50 items from boots to blazers. The items will run from $17.99 to $89.99 and will debut just in time to update your fall wardrobe.

Forever21 Artist Series

Keith Haring and Jean-Michel Basquiat are among several artists whose work can be identified based on it’s uniqueness. The bright colors and various patterns have been seen all over the streets of New York where both of these artists were based.

The late Keith Haring has always been a favorite artist of mine. He was an advocate for gay rights and was open about his struggle with AIDs which eventually lead to his death at age 31.

Basquiat and Haring became friends through the artist scene and each began working with artists like Andy Warhol. Basquiat’s successful life sadly became enveloped by drugs. He passed away at age 27 due to overdose.

Forever 21 has created a new collection: the Artist Series which will be featuring the two popular artists Haring and Basquiat. The collection includes styles for both men and women including swimwear and pieces perfect for summer.

While this line is not due to be released until May 23rd, I just so happened to come across it early! The graphic designs and colors of every piece immediately caught my eye. I got my hands on nearly everything. All except for the one-piece swimsuit is cotton so even being from F21, the items should hold up fairly well. Prices range from just $8-$19 and be sure to ask for the military discount this Memorial Day weekend as well (it’s not advertised).

Alexander Wang for H&M

I am already planning my trip to the Orlando H&M, and November 6th can’t come soon enough… During the Coachella Music Fest in Cali, H&M announced the next designer they would be teaming up with: ALEXANDER WANG!

The American fashion designer and past winner of the Fashion Fund (2008), is very influential in the industry, creating designs that are show his edgy twist on basic peices. The NY-based designer’s work has been seen all over. He is the current creative director for Balenciaga.

The line, available 11/6, will be sold in over 250 stores worldwide as well as online and will feature designs for both men and women. I’m hoping I can save all my pennies by the time this comes out.

“To Tommy, From Zooey”

American designer Tommy Hilfiger has teamed up with New Girl star Zooey Deschanel to create a spring capsule collection! The line will feature 16 dresses which are all inspired by Zooey’s signature vintage style. You can find this collection online at Tommy Hilfiger and in Macy’s stores on April 14. Each piece will range from $98-$199.
